4. The Adorable Dragon Romance

The big hook of this movie, if you like, is the introduction of a female dragon, the Light Fury, with whom Toothless immediately becomes smitten.

While you can argue that it's the most obvious route a third entry into the series could've gone, the wordless interplay between the two characters is so freaking adorable that it's quite tough to complain.

Toothless becomes immediately bashful and even goofier than usual when the Light Fury is around, resulting in a number of hilarious gags not-so-subtly comparing his behaviour to that of a hormonal teenage boy.

And though this romance doesn't really do anything beyond the expected, it is charming in its simplicity, conveyed mostly through cutesy sight gags which almost always hit the spot.

Basically, you'd need to be extremely cynical to sniff at just how lovely this pairing is.
