In Defence Of Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness

5. The Illuminati

Around the midway mark of the Multiverse of Madness came a moment that will change the Marvel Cinematic Universe forever. The Avengers and the Guardians have been around for years, and the Eternals have recently joined the fray, but here was the Illuminati.

Typically made up of only the smartest heroes in Marvel Comics, the Illuminati is one of the most powerful teams the source material can boast. Black Bolt, Maria Rambeau, Peggy Carter, Karl Mordo, Reed Richards, and Charles Xavier brought this team to life wonderfully.

While it is a shame that they were essentially used as a means to demonstrate the Scarlet Witch’s power, Earth-838’s Illuminati may have opened the door for a 616 version of the team in the future, and potentially more depending on how much the franchise leans on the multiverse aspect. Not to mention John Krasinski as Reed Richards.

The marketing machine spoiled a lot of this part of the movie, but had the trailers shown less footage leaving something for the cinematic experience itself, we’d be talking about the introduction of this team in the same way as Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield rocking up in Spider-Man: No Way Home. This was the fault of the marketing, not the movie itself.
