20th Century Fox20th Century FoxWhat would Independence Day be without at least one reference to Star Wars? Nothing, that's what. So prepare to squint your eyes a lot in order to catch a glimpse of this little easter egg, which alludes to - would you believe - the Death Star? On the computer monitor in the SETI office, then, there's a diagram of "Deep Space Satellite Devlin" (named after co-writer/producer Dean Devlin). Does the shape look familiar to you, by any chance? Of course it does. Because the satellite is a small version of the Death Star, people! Complete with solar arrays attached and everything! Obviously, this means absolutely nothing, no matter how many fanboys will try to tell you that this now signals that there's a secret story arch connecting the likes of Independence Day and Star Wars. Just think: if you were a production designer on this movie, wouldn't you, too, try and slip in as many cheeky references to your favourite films? Yup.
