Indiana Jones 5: 7 Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull Mistakes It Must Avoid

5. Killing Beloved Characters Off-Screen!

One of the main reasons fans enjoy revisiting older properties so much is to check up on their favourite characters. From Star Wars: The Force Awakens€™ Han Solo to Terminator Genisys and Arnold Schwarzenegger, it€™s part of the appeal and is akin to that welcoming, roasting fire on a cold winter€™s day - it feels good to interact with something familiar.

So, it felt like quite the middle-finger to discover that, about twenty minutes into the fourth movie, Professor Henry Jones - Sean Connery in his most famous Bond-less role - had been killed off-screen, and was reduced to a mere passing mention.

Not only did this offend fans, but it arguably contributed to the failure of that particular movie. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is so chock-full of new characters, from Shia LaBeouf€™s Mutt to an €˜old friend€™ of Indy€™s (John Hurt) that was strangely absent from the first three movies, and not all of it made sense. Perhaps a welcome dose of fan-favourite characters, like Henry Jones or even Sallah, could€™ve re-captured some of that Indiana Jones magic that this belated sequel lacked.
