2. The Iris Shot Ending
One can't envy James Mangold for trying to figure out what the final shot should be in the final Indiana Jones movie, and his choice was a pretty strange one at first glance.
The final shot shows the exterior of Indy's apartment as Helena and company walk away, before craning up to Indy's balcony, where his hat can be seen hanging on a washing line.
We then see Indy reach for the hat as the screen shrinks down into an iris focused on the hat, in a manner reminiscent of the classic adventure serials that inspired George Lucas to create Indiana Jones in the first place.
A fitting final shot, then, if also an unexpected one.
