Insidious: The Last Key - 2 Ups & 7 Downs

1. The Solid Supporting Cast

In addition to Shaye, the entire movie is honestly much better-acted than the film really deserves, which has been a frequent trend in the franchise.

Kirk Acevedo is suitably frazzled as the current owner of Elise's childhood home, Bruce Davison makes an entertaining, unexpected appearance as Elise's estranged brother, Josh Stewart is sinister in flashbacks as Elise's abusive father, and Locke and Gerard bring an affable quality to Elise's two troubled nieces.

It's mostly for squat, ultimately, due to the feckless script, but at least the acting never becomes eye-rolling or laughable. The cast are pros and they're trying their hardest to sell it all convincingly, even if they're fighting an uphill battle for the most part.
