Interstellar: 10 Titbits That Will Get You Even More Excited

4. There Will Be Robots

Aliens are a maybe, robots are a guarantee. The film€™s advanced publicity has revealed that the Endurance crew will be assisted by two robot life forms €“ CASE and TARS €“ that are more in the vein of old-style military robots than shiny humanoid proxies. Actor, comedian and vaudeville performer Bill Irwin was the man assigned to bring the robots to life and do the voicework (although another actor will voice CASE in the finished film), and what you will see are functional creations designed to assist the explorers as they set foot on uncharted planets. TARS, in particular, is set to be one of the film€™s revelations. Described as €œa mini-monolith of metamorphic Jenga blocks€ in one press report, TARS is ostensibly an oblong design but is actually comprised of a number of smaller, interconnected rectangular blocks that can pivot and unfold to create different shapes according to its needs. The overall look of TARS is more than a little reminiscent of the black monolith seen in Stanley Kubrick€™s 2001: A Space Odyssey, and early word suggests that it will be a robot and not McConaughey, Hathaway or Chastain that steals the show.

I watch movies and I watch sport. I also watch movies about sport, and if there were a sport about movies I'd watch that too. The internet was the closest thing I could find.
