Interstellar: 11 Insane Spoilers Everyone Is Talking About

9. Time Dilation Is Back

One of the most incredible aspects of Nolan's Inception was the notion of time dilation, that the deeper a person delves into dream layers, the more amount of time that can unfold relative to the layer above it. It was a great gimmick that added a disorientating and exciting tenor to already high-stakes proceedings, and as such the time dilation perhaps doesn't feel quite so fresh in Interstellar, even if it's imbued with a much greater emotional impact. After the Endurance heads to the first of three planets to explore for signs of its colonisation potential, the crew soon enough stumbles across a road-block in the form of a gigantic black hole rather appropriately named Gargantua. Its substantial gravitational pull means that time runs slower than on Earth, with one hour spent on the planet's surface accounting for 7 years back home, an issue that affects almost their entire journey. Unsurprisingly, this creates an enormous amount of stress for the crew as they consider their loved ones back home, specifically Cooper, who struggles to cope with the heartbreak that Murphy feels, believing herself abandoned by her father (and, of course, now being fully-grown and played by Jessica Chastain).
