10. The Planet Of The Apes-Style Splashdown

Misdirection is always a big part of Nolan's film-making, and a lot of speculation before the film's release predicted a Planet Of The Apes style twist, thanks to the trailer's use of a suspiciously Earth-like planet and the looming suggestion of time travel. But Nolan was playing with us all - the twist was something else entirely - but there were little nods to the sci-fi classic, particularly in the water-landing on the water planet (mimicking, though not exactly Heston's arrival on the ape world). And if that wasn't enough, the sequence was prefaced by Cooper urging speed to not lose a lot of time with the words "no monkey business."
