11. The Lunar Missions

The entire film is a morality tale about humanity's inevitable over-reaching will, and as such it belongs on the same pile as Frankenstein and Godzilla, and of course there's something very similar in the "death" of the Earth and the way the end of Krypton is presented in Man Of Steel (which Nolan worked on, of course). In Interstellar, the morality tale has progressed to such an extent that history has been rewritten to denounce the Apollo missions as a lie to bankrupt Russia, and school kids are encouraged to look to the survival of their own planet, rather than to leaving it in exploration. In short, Interstellar is basically a prequel to Wall-E, as has already been discussed...
