Is This How Marvel Plan To Introduce Symbiotes To The MCU?
2. The Asgardian Connection
Cates' and Stegman's deep dive into the history of the symbiotes also ties in with the Asgardians, in a way that actually elevates one of the greatest Thor stories of recent times.
The issue actually reveals that the shadow-like sword Gorr the God Butcher used to fight Odin and Thor with was the same one Knull conjured in his initial battle. This is a pretty big deal, as it weaves the origin of the symbiotes not just into Marvel's cosmic history, but its Asgardian one too.
Gorr, sadly, has not yet been broached in the films. But with demand for another entry in that series having hotted up considerably after the release of Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok, it's likely that the villain could also be on Marvel Studios' 'character cards', along with the likes of Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, and Miles Morales.
We've already seen Thor link up with the Guardians in Avengers: Infinity War, so now that we know that the symbiotes are inherently tied to both histories in the comics, there's now precedent for the link to be strengthened on the big screen as well.
But what is it about this origin that makes it so perfect for the MCU, apart from everything else the issue has revealed?
