Isle Of Dogs Review: 7 Ups & 2 Downs

2. The Supporting Cast Is Mostly Wasted
True to any Wes Anderson film, Isle of Dogs' cast is littered with famous faces - or rather, voices - and though most of the usual Anderson regulars show up (though curiously not co-writer Jason Schwartzman), a lot of them sadly aren't used all that much.
Perhaps the most egregious example is Tilda Swinton, who voices Oracle, an apparently psychic pug who appears in the film for a scattered minute-or-so of runtime and has maybe two or three lines. It feels like a huge waste of such a potential-ridden character.
Elsewhere the likes of Bill Murray and Jeff Goldblum get a few errant lines a-piece every now and then, and while the actors are here solely to serve the ensemble-led story, it's a shame Anderson wrangled much of his cast into the recording booth for presumably about 15 minutes each.
