It Chapter 2: Every Character Ranked Worst To Best

3. Pennywise - Bill Skarsgard

It says a lot of how good Bill Skarsgard's performance as Pennywise is that he feels a little under-served in Chapter 2. He's not absent, exactly, but it definitely feels like he should have been in more rather than the catalogue of other monsters we see trotted out. Even if he was involved in those, it would have been better.

Skarsgard's performance is a truly transformative one, part disarming kids TV presenter part full-blown psychotic monster and the amount of impact he can conjure out of doing that roaming eye thing is just wonderful. The fact that he manages to make such a weird package genuinely creepy is impressive and it's just a shame he wasn't given more of an opportunity to do it.

And it's further testament to the character's brilliance that when he transforms into the giant horrific spider monster at the end, it's not the huge letdown that the ABC version was. That must have been the biggest pitfall of the entire film and it's dealt with wonderfully.
