Fans of the book - or the 1990 miniseries - may have been surprised to see the narrative split into two parts with the first film focusing solely on The Losers' Club as kids. In both previous iterations the story was told as a whole albeit in two parts. Muschietti's decision to split the story in to two films allowed for a more grounded story in the first film which approapriately introduces the main bunch of kids.

However, for those yearning for a more faithful take (i.e younger and older versions in the same film) may be in luck. Producer Roy Lee - per Collider - revealed that there could potentially be a directors cut which would combine the two films into one four hour plus movie. Lee had this to say:

"We’re taking it and making the movie from the point of view of the kids, and then making another movie from the point of view of the adults, that could potentially then be cut together like the novel. But it’s gonna be a really fun way of making this movie."
