Even accepting the film's ability to frighten the living Bajesus out of audiences and also make them laugh, it's still surprising how genuinely affecting the final movie is with regard to the bond that grows between the members of the Losers' Club.

It's all the more impressive as the film doesn't bash audiences over the head with the burgeoning friendship, and the more intimate, emotional moments tend to sneak up on viewers and have a more subtle payoff.

It'll be interesting to see how the planned second movie picks up the baton and runs with it, especially as the Losers' Club will be played by a new set of adult actors.
