9. Tokyo Decadence (1992)
REPRESENTING JAPAN A shy University student - Ai - works as a speciality prostitute for a Tokyo brothel that focuses on weird fetish sex. All sorts of sleazy exploits are played out on our screens - BDSM and erotic asphyxiation are two notable examples. The actual story follows Ai's unrequited love for a gallery owner. She consults a fortune teller as to what to do, and under the influence of a substance goes to his house. The police are called but Ai is rescued by a neighbour. Ai is forced into a lot of kinky sex by degenerate Yakuza members and the lower echelons of Japanese society, but for a whore, she makes little noise about her profession, just quietly going about her sleazy days. The sex in Tokyo Decadence is impressively sleazy and there is little wonder the film was rated NC-17 in America. The main story about Ai and her love interest is not very well explained or well done. It is definitely the sleazy perversion factor that will sustain the viewer's interest. And it is well rendered - in fact quite classy as only the Japanese can do.
