Italy Versus Japan: Battle Of The Sleaze Epics

6. Thrilling In Venice (1979)

Pkpkpkk REPRESENTING ITALY Two bodies are recovered from a canal in Venice. The police do a little investigating and find out that they are Fabio and Flavia - a married couple. Snooping into the couple's lives, they come across many of their degenerate friends and the bodies keep piling up. Do any of these characters have a conscience or an inch of morality? The sleaziest, most nasty Giallo of them all, Thrilling in Venice is a law onto itself. We see flashbacks to Flavia being abused and mistreated by Fabio - it seems to be a BDSM thing. Their love making is extremely boring to watch and Fabio in particular looks like he is the world's crappest lover. There are Fulci-esque crotch stabbings and the murders are extremely gruesome and tasteless. The all out violence is much more egregious than the sleazy, but boring sexual shenanigans. A woman gets her leg sawed off as she is alive. A man gets burned alive. It is all squalid, sordid and mean-spirited. Director Mario Landi either deserves to be hailed as a sleazetastic hero or burned in effigy for this filth!

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
