Jack Bauer heads to Europe in big screen 24 movie!!

Variety report that Fox are in the very early stages of bringing Jack Bauer to cinemas in a European adventure that will act as €œa two-hour representation of a day". Billy Ray (writer/director of Breach, Shattered Glass) will pen the screenplay for the 24 movie which star/producer Kiefer Sutherland is said to be pushing for as it increasingly feels like the currently airing eighth season will be one of the last for the show, if not the absolute last. Figures for the show have been dwindling. It's down 10% on last season - and if Season 8 proves to be the end, I would expect the 24 movie to come quickly and potentially more movies beyond if it proves a hit.

Given the right plot situation and if it feels in the mold of Edge of Darkness and Taken, then I could see myself paying for a 24 movie. This despite me cutting out on the series mid-way through it's third season, and not returning since. I was always a fan of the character Sutherland constructed and it was never his performance that kept me away from the show - it was the awful 24 hour gimmick. It was genius for the first season, but really dumb to keep it beyond that and the implausibility of every case for Jack Bauer being resolved within exactly a day, led to restrictive writing and bad decision making. Now the opportunity of a big screen two hour movie interests me greatly because it should see a return of free form storytelling and hopefully some imagination.
