James Bond: 10 Awesome Gadgets That Would Never Work In Real Life

9. Oddjob's Hat

oddjob death Oddjob is probably the most revered henchman of the bond franchise, the Korean manservant serves Auric Goldfinger on his quest for domination, and proves quite an obstacle for 007. However, Oddjob didn't rely on just his raw brawn and fortitude, he also had his heavily modified bowler hat at his disposal. The hat has a hardened steel rim, and a razor sharp serrated edge, that's apparently capable of slicing through rock, metal, and flesh at one fling of the gentleman's head wear. However, while certainly discreet, suave, and rather dapper, is the hat actually feasible a device that would work in real life? Oddjob's hat is another myth that's been broken before on TV show Mythbusters, as ultimately the hat failed to cut through a regular stone statue, only chipping it instead. The inherit problem with the concept is that of the metal edge. The nature of throwing the hat with a decent amount of force behind it, will lead to it only ever piercing or chipping the target as opposed to slicing through it. You also have to consider the amount of force needed for a decent driving force behind it. As far as Oddjob's hat goes as a gadget, it's functional and feasible as an idea, but its offensive capabilities are incredibly minor.
