The watery opening to the 1965 offering, Thunderball, comes in at number 9. Thunderball represented Connery's fourth outing as Bond and the series was really beginning to hit its stride here. The opening sequence to Thunderball makes no attempt to reinvent the wheel, of course, but is perfectly satisfying nonetheless. We see women, enshrouded in silhouette, swimming across the screen, whilst the colour of the water they swim in is constantly changed using camera hues and coloured lighting. This combines for a simple but effective sequence. It is bright, colourful and dramatic and effectively sets the tone for what is to come in one of the stronger Bond movies of the 1960s. To cap it all off, the theme song is an absolute delight, courtesy of Welsh crooner Tom Jones, who - in 1965 - was at the peak of his powers.
