5. Jaws - The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)/ Moonraker (1979)
The biggest bad henchman in the whole of the Bond universe has to go to Jaws. Played by Richard Kiel, he was a man with more bite than the shark that shares his name, he is the epitome of all things Bond. Jaws is a character you want to punch in the face, but daren't do it for fear of spending the evening in A&E. Whilst the character of Jaws may have been super strong, the actor wasn't; when biting through a cable (above) the producers would use licorice, whilst this may have been tasty the dentures were so uncomfortable Kiel could only wear them for 35 seconds at a time. In 'The Spy Who Loved Me' Jaws survives pretty much anything Bond throws at him- A pyramid collapse, hit by a van, thrown from a train, failing parachutes, shark battles and going over waterfalls; he is either a superhuman, or just bloody lucky. Originally the plan was to have Jaws die in the shark battle in 'The Spy Who Loved Me', but the character tested so well they kept him on.The idea was to have him in 'Moonraker' with an eyepatch and moustache, thankfully this isn't 'Deadwood' and neither happened. So why all the hate? His redemption at the end of 'Moonraker' is enough to make you empty your stomach and his odd pairing with his girlfriend Dolly is enough alone. But the true reason to hate Jaws is his move from genuinely scary character to comedic side villain, secondly at the end of 'Moonraker' they let him speak! The illusion of Jaws is ruined and the dream of ultimate big bad is shattered. Thanks Lewis Gilbert.
