6. James Norton

You’d be forgiven for thinking that James Norton had played James Bond before in a past life considering just how long his name has been touted for the role. He’s a name well-known to us in the UK for his TV work and although he may lack the global reach of others in this list, this only works in his favour. Always acutely dressed and eloquently styled, Norton is undoubtedly a handsome figure who offers a throwback to the traditional Bond image Ian Fleming curated once upon a time ago that oozed class and charm.

However, James is much more than just a pretty face as fans and viewers of Happy Valley will tell you. The Londoner showcases some serious range within the show as its primary antagonist, and his on-screen experience of portraying heroism and villainy brands him unique to his competition. It's easy to see Norton’s face occupying the infamous suit and tie with a martini in one hand and a pistol in the other, and of course, the 37-year-old is no stranger to the world of espionage having played the role once or twice in the past.

Already possessing Connery’s charm and Moore’s class, the Grantchester star can embody Craig’s vulnerability and explore a 007 concocted of differing yet familiar traits for the big screen. As Bond’s cinematic existence continues to advance and evolve from actor to actor, James Norton could pose an all-too-familiar avenue too difficult for Barbara Broccoli and co. to pass driving down.
