James Bond Films: Ranking Best To Worst

21. Moonraker

Growing up, this was my least favourite Bond film. Bond€should not€ go€ into€ Space! It€™s full of utter excess. It has some real redeeming qualities in a brilliant opening sequence, one of the series€™ best, as well as an awesome fight with an Anaconda (Something you should know is that I€™m a sucker for animals in Bond films- sharks, crocodiles, piranhas, Komodo dragons, snakes, spiders€) and Dr. Holly Goodhead, one of the best bond girls we€™ve ever had despite the name. But the plot is ridiculous, and the films€™ worst crime is that it completely ruins Jaws. For god€™s sake, the ending is one of the stupidest I€™ve ever seen. Imagine if Oddjob had randomly found love, and finally spoke only to say €œwell, here€™s to us!€- it destroys to illusion, like when€we€ Jaws roared in one of the sequels. Nitpicking aside, the villain€™s rather boring, and it€™s just so obvious that Cubby Broccoli was trying to ape the success of Star Wars that its distracting. Sometimes it has worked when the films try to ape similar films in its genre (Live and Let Die, Licence To Kill€), but here it just shows what happens when Bond stops being its own thing and tries to copy people. This is the furthest away Bond has been from my perception of him.
