20th Century Fox
has announced that
James Cameron's next directorial effort will be
Avatar 2 and then
Avatar 3, after 'the king of the world' eventually decided to pass on
Angelina Jolie's vanity project (aka
Cleopatra). Scripting will begin after the New Year, with production pencilled in to start in around a year's time. It'll be another long one... we won't get to see the final product until Dec. 2014 (Part I) and Dec. 2015 (Part II). Presumably, both films will be shot back-to-back. All this is fantastic news, of course. Why try and re-create history (you will recall the
60's Cleopatra, a movie of such lavish spectacle and notorious overindulgence, it's hard to see any re-imagining being of much interest), when you can make history?
