3. Joey - City By The Sea
In a movie about addiction and homicide, one would think that power-house actors like Robert De Niro and Frances McDormand would give City By The Sea some gravitas. Instead what we unfortunately are left with is the film City by the Sea. That's not to say that this is necessarily a horrible film. It's not. The sin that City by the Sea commits isn't one of a filmmaking travesty, but one of being entirely forgettable. And no one is more forgettable than Franco, the young junkie who finds himself engulfed in a murder beef. His performance is flat and uninteresting, made worse by the lack of character development bequeathed by the screenwriter Ken Hixon.
