Jason Bourne: 10 Reasons It's A Huge Disappointment
8. The Hilariously Bad Hacking & Tech
While the prior Bourne movies mostly managed to keep their techno-babble in check, Jason Bourne at times felt like a parody of terrible shows like NCIS and CSI which couldn't muster semi-believable techspeak if their lives depended on it.
An early cringe-fest ensues when the CIA are tracking Nicky and actually enhance a video of her, which is howlingly absurd for a franchise that usually prides itself on being so smart and visceral: it's one of the most maligned tropes in spy fiction and yet here it is.
Then there's woeful lines like "Use SQL to corrupt the database", typing "run predictive algorithm" into a database to find Nicky, a USB stick with the word "encrypted" taped on it in a giant font, laptops getting hacked through phones and much more.
You don't need to be a tech wiz to raise your eyebrows at at least a few of these moments, and they proved frequently distracting.
