Jason Statham: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
And 5 That Sucked...
5. Farmer - In The Name Of The King (2007)
Everyone is terrible in In the Name of the King. There's not one decent performance in the entire flick despite the cast including the likes of Ray Liotta, Matthew Lillard and Ron Perlman, who are all more than capable actors when they work well. One has to assume everybody is so bad because Uwe Boll had no idea how to direct his actors and because the script was so derivative and awful.
Statham played Farmer and he threw a boomerang, which transmits pretty much all you need to know about the character. He feels horribly out of place, miscast completely, and spends the film apparently attempting to show how someone can get through hugely affecting circumstances without so much as a flicker of emotion.
However it's tough to blame the actor, since there probably wasn't any real character to convey, given how terrible the writing feels, and how notoriously shoddy Boll is as a director. This is arguably Statham's worst film all round, which won't even appeal to committed, blinkered Statham fans, and you can only suspect that he really needed the work.
