Jeff Goldblum: 5 Awesome Performances & 5 That Sucked

3. Nick Deezy - Vibes (1988)

Jeff Goldblum Vibes

Within the bones of Vibes - the paranormal comedy starring Goldblum and Cyndi Lauper - there could have been a good film about the natural hi-jinx of two burgeoning physics thrust together. Sadly, the early promise isn't built on at all, and what results is a painfully generic clash comedy that aims for Romancing The Stone and fails in every respect.

The script is terrible, the plot contrived and derivative and worst of all, Lauper and Goldblum are given absolutely nothing to do. It's absolutely criminal. Well, it is for Goldblum, who stands around looking frustrated at not being rewarded for his misplaced enthusiasm; Lauper on the other hand is over-zealous and fails singularly to play anyone but an obnoxious mirror of her self. It's not acting as much as simply turning up.

The film is a massive shame, and one that cold have been avoided even with a little more focus on the script, but it clearly wasn't to be.
