4. Carl - Yes Man
Yes Man, adapted from Danny Wallace's acclaimed novel, is a great idea for a movie - the protagonist
has to say "Yes" to everything he is invited or asked to do - yet it's executed rather half-assedly here, and Carrey delivers one of the more phoned-in performances of his career. Though the film was a tremendous box office success, it had a middling critical response, and with good reason; the plot is rather similar to Carrey's classic Liar Liar, and doesn't really go anywhere interesting with it. Carrey, though not
bad per se, is just running on fumes, seemingly not too bothered about the work he's doing, and just collecting an easy payday. Much of the problem is that his character just isn't written as very interesting; this is without question one of his most forgettable characters.
