John Cusack: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

2. Eddie Thomas - America's Sweethearts

This insider comedy had all the trappings of being a decent turn of the century poke at Tinseltown pomp - it was scribed by Billy Crystal, no stranger to biting satire - but ended up being a glossy affair sans the laughs. Cusack is ably cast as established Hollywood thesp, Eddie Thomas, but isn't given much room to draw out any laughs from Crystal's safe script, or throw out any of his famed rapid patter at Catherine Zita Jones and Julia Roberts. Overshadowed by Crystal himself in a supporting role and a bat sh*t crazy Christopher Walken, playing an eccentric director, this could easily be one of Cusack's most frustrating roles.
