John Cusack: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

3. Jonathan Trager - Serendipity

Director Peter Chelsolm's city lights-bathed rom com was never going to win any accolades for originality - two souls in New York converge at Bloomingdales one night and test out the chances of one another having a chance meeting in the future, before returning to their respective partners, that is - but with a soppy Cusack in the lead, boasting the patter of a castrated Lloyd Dobler, as well as a flat Kate Beckinsale as his romantic foil, the film fails to be anything other than a hapless chancer. Lovely score from Alan Silvestri and a neat supporting turn from Jeremy Piven, though.
