2. Constantine - Mutant Chronicles
One can only hope that Malkovich got a decent payoff for his work here, because it's downright embarrassing, more a result of the tawdry material than his own tired presence in it. Mutant Chronicles is a painfully low-budget sci-fi action flick that somehow also roped Ron Perlman and Thomas Jane in for the ride, and absolutely none of them can have been paid more than the blow to their careers is worth (not that anyone really saw the movie). Malkovich plays Constantine, a man who seems not to care all that much for his life, but the film is so scant on character development that this is never sufficiently expanded upon, nor are we ever really asked to care. Malkovich just pulls pretty much the above expression for the few scenes throughout the film in which he appears, as though literally standing in shot for the minimum amount of time needed while being handed his salary $1 bills at a time. It's a face that says, "And my soul is dying". But that's not the worst of it...
