And still, Depp was able to plumb even lower depths with the hugely disappointing 2010 film The Tourist. This is a film that ticked a lot of boxes for a lot of people; Depp and Jolie finally being paired on screen as star-crossed lovers, an exotic foreign setting (Venice), and an acclaimed director (The Lives of Others' Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck) - what could possibly go wrong? The real problem with The Tourist, other than the fact that the ludicrously $100 million-budgeted action comedy has an awful script, is that Depp and Jolie curiously don't have a whole lot of chemistry. Their banter isn't very exciting, neither of the two seems particularly into what they're shooting, and there's not even a steamy sex scene like 99% of people watching the film wanted to see in the first place.
