3. There's No Living Up To Heath Ledger
Whoever ends up landing the lead role of The Joker - whether it's Leo or somebody else entirely - will be doomed to failure, because the expectations which come with all of that makeup are sky high.
That truly definitive performance from the late Heath Ledger in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight is almost impossible to live up to. Just ask Jared Leto.
Heath was deservedly handed a posthumous Oscar for his role as the Clown Prince of Crime, and the terror, screen presence and demonic charm he channelled is still relatively fresh in everyone's minds.
The Joker origin movie has to top that, or at least equal it to be considered a success, and on this front, it's already fighting a losing battle.
That isn't to say nobody else should ever play The Joker because Ledger absolutely nailed the part almost a decade ago, but since the villain will be taking centre stage in this project, nothing but the best will satisfy the fan base.
