Joss Whedon: 10 Films He Should Work On Next

9. Suspension

Before Joss Whedon was the box office-smashing maestro that he is today, his scripts didn€™t always come to fruition. One of the oldest un-produced Whedon ideas is Suspension, which Largo Entertainment paid him a not-to-be-sniffed-at fee of $750,000 to write way back in 1993 (before Whedon€™s Toy Script had even made it to the screen). A small-scale action movie, Whedon€™s script for Suspension features a group of terrorists as they take control of the George Washington Bridge in New York during a traffic jam. There€™s certainly still a market for that type of story today, especially with Whedon€™s name plastered all over the promotional materials. By the sounds of a 2014 Empire Podcast interview, Suspension has now been dusted off and put into production. Liam Neeson is attached to star, and he€™ll presumably be playing the hero of the piece; an ex-con called Harry Monk who plucks up the courage to take on the terrorists. If Whedon is attached to direct Suspension, he€™s keeping it very quiet. It€™d surely be a tempting proposition to him, though. It€™s a simple action film with a clear lead character, which fits two of his aforementioned stipulations. It could be a great way for him to blow off the cobwebs and get back on the filmmaking wagon. Largo Entertainment went bust in 1999, so it€™s now up to InterMedia (who acquired Largo's library in 2001) to give Whedon a call. Let€™s hope they do.
