9. Suspension
Before Joss Whedon was the box office-smashing maestro that he is today, his scripts didnt always come to fruition. One of the oldest un-produced Whedon ideas is Suspension, which Largo Entertainment paid him a not-to-be-sniffed-at fee of $750,000 to write way
back in 1993 (before Whedons Toy Script had even made it to the screen). A small-scale action movie, Whedons script for Suspension features a group of terrorists as they take control of the George Washington Bridge in New York during a traffic jam. Theres certainly still a market for that type of story today, especially with Whedons name plastered all over the promotional materials. By the sounds of a 2014
Empire Podcast interview, Suspension has now been dusted off and put into production. Liam Neeson is attached to star, and hell presumably be playing the hero of the piece; an ex-con called Harry Monk who plucks up the courage to take on the terrorists. If Whedon is attached to direct Suspension, hes keeping it very quiet. Itd surely be a tempting proposition to him, though. Its a simple action film with a clear lead character, which fits two of his aforementioned stipulations. It could be a great way for him to blow off the cobwebs and get back on the filmmaking wagon. Largo Entertainment went bust in 1999, so its now up to InterMedia (who acquired Largo's library in 2001) to give Whedon a call. Lets hope they do.
