Joss Whedon: 10 Films He Should Work On Next

4. A Star Wars Spin-Off

It€™s hard to be an out-of-work filmmaker at the moment without someone assuming that you€™re working on a Star Wars movie. Lucasfilm has been collecting talented writers and directors recently, so Kathleen Kennedy and her cohorts are bound to have thought about giving proven sci-fi mastermind Joss Whedon a call. But where could they slot him in? Well, it seems unlikely that Whedon would want to helm one of their tent-pole €˜Episode€™ movies after his well-documented studio struggles on Age Of Ultron (and all those jobs have been allocated anyway). But maybe he could be allured towards a Star Wars spin-off akin to Rogue One or the much-talked-about Han Solo movie. Both of those films have directors attached already, but their existence proves that Lucasfilm is willing to invest in stories far removed from the main narrative of the Skywalker family. The Star Wars galaxy is a big place, and there€™s bound to be some small corner of it that appeals to a man like Joss. He could create his own ruthless female bounty hunter character and invent new planets for her to explore, for example. Looking at where Daisy Ridley and Felicity Jones have ended up, it€™s clear that Lucasfilm is the place to go at the moment if you want to make a female-fronted sci-fi film with a hefty budget. And doesn€™t that sound like the exact sort of thing Mr Whedon would be interested in?
