Joss Whedon: 10 Films He Should Work On Next

5. Wastelanders

Wastelanders is a collaboration between Joss Whedon and writer Warren Ellis (famed for his comic book work and a handful of novels) that so far has come to nothing. Both creative chaps spoke about the project enthusiastically, and had intended to make it after Whedon was finished with the first Avengers movie. Of course, Whedon eventually decided to stick with Marvel and made Age Of Ultron instead of Wastelanders. It sounds like an interesting project, though, so it€™s easy to assume that Whedon might try to revive it now that he€™s escaped the Marvel moviemaking machine. Originally envisioned as an independently produced web series, Wastelanders was described by Ellis as €œa funny horrible story about the end of the world.€ Whedon offered an alternate take, dubbing it a €œa drama about people who save the world and how unbelievably unhappy they are€ Either way, it sounds both dark and chuckle-inducing. The problem with a small, personal project like this is that it€™s tough to turn down well-paid high profile work to find time for it. Perhaps Whedon and Ellis will decide to adapt their Wastelander ideas into a movie, therefore making it more likely to rake in some cash and justifying spending loads of their time on it.
