Jules Gill's 10 Greatest Films Of All Time

9. The Fifth Element

Jules Keanu The Matrix

The Fifth Element is my "Always Film", as in there is not a moment that I can think of where if someone said "Do you want to watch The Fifth Element?" that I'd actually refuse. This is one of the most surreal pieces of cinema that I've ever witnessed, and its freedom of expression and downright oddity make it so enjoyable to watch.

This is a film that seems to have come from a mind that never said no, fusing in bizarre camera shots, incredibly off-beat character moments, and comedy that strikes like lightning out of nowhere leaving you utterly stunned. The fact that you can go from a world-ending entity making black goo drip from Gary Oldman's head to Chris Tucker screaming "Corbin Daaaalaaaaaas!" in a mere matter of seconds provides whiplash enough to break your bloody neck, but what holds this together is the sheer charm and confidence of the central narrative.

This endlessly quotable film is a visual candy rush and will forever hold the multipass to my heart.

Jules Gill hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
