Jumping The Shark 2: 8 More Franchise Derailing Films

6. Conan the Destroyer

Master purveyor of schlock Dino De Laurentiis thought that the first installment of the Conan the Barbarian franchise missed a golden opportunity for a boffo box office (despite being a major hit) because the film's R rating prohibited youngsters from enjoying the wholesome entertainment of semi-nude men hacking off one another's limbs. As a result, Laurentiis chose to neuter the sequel, Conan the Destroyer, by cutting out the film's graphic battle sequences to obtain a PG rating. When Laurentiis ousted Conan's raison d'ĂȘtre of intense violence he left behind a boring slog that defines the term unwatchable. To make matters worse non-actors Grace Jones and Wilt Chamberlain fill out the cast in a bid to make Arnold's acting seem more competent. It fails. Arnold had been slated for a trilogy finale but the second film stank so badly he opted for a glorified cameo in Red Sonja instead.
