5. Caddy Shack II

A legendarily awful sequel, Caddy Shack II exemplifies jumping the shark. The ludicrous plot finds a wealthy schlub buying Caddy Shack's Bushwood country club and turning it into a literal circus replete with a ferris wheel. Another baffling choice: the pesky gopher from the first film developed the ability to talk between installments. The producers originally conceived Caddy Shack II as a Rodney Dangerfield vehicle; Dangerfield gave the script no respect, bowing out of the project due to its awfulness. None of the original cast returned for the sequel, except for classless uber-hack Chevy Chase. Chase reprised his role as Ty Webb when he heard a paycheck would be involved. But Caddy Shack II fell below even Chase's rock-bottom standards. Onset a beleagured Chase told the producer to call him "when youve dubbed the laugh-track". After this sequel, the once promising Caddy Shack series found itself under the turf permanently.
