Jurassic Park 4: 10 Ways To Make It Great

5. Make It Science

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkWeMvrNiOM I've probably lost every scientifically-minded person perusing this list with a headline like "Make It Science," but that casual wording perfectly explains the attitude that Jurassic Park has towards science that makes it so great. Because all know that the scientific theories in Jurassic Park aren't remotely feasible (we do all know that, right?) and yet it doesn't matter. And that's thanks to Michael Crichton, presumably, whose source novel implemented the scientific aspects to surprisingly convincing levels. Enough for him to take us on the journey, if you will. Because if you can make it convincing from the start, you've won your audience's respect, even if they know what you're telling them is a load of old dinosaur turd. If they at least feel as though you've made the effort, they'll make the effort, too. And that's why Jurassic Park IV shouldn't dumb down its accessible scientific aspects - they make the franchise so appealing. Moments like Dr. Malcolm's "Life, uh, finds a way" speech and the little animated film that John Hammond shows his guests when they first arrive on the island are some of the original's best parts. 'Cause of science.
