Jurassic Park 4: 5 Reasons Some Fans Are Bound For Disappointment

4. Family Friendly Rating Or R Rated Gore Fest

This brings me to my next point- there are some Jurassic Park fans who want to ditch the family friendly rating and make JP an €œR€ rated horror type of movie. Those fans are simply in for a world of disappointment as this will likely never, ever happen. The amount of money that would be lost by turning the franchise away from the PG-13 rating would be tremendous and Universal would never allow this. The studio recognizes that kids love dinosaurs and kids love going to the movies. When you bring in younger audiences, you also have their parents or guardians buy a ticket and you can sell a great deal of merchandise. While I would be intrigued to see an €œR€ rated, darker, more grisly Jurassic Park movie, it simply will not happen because these films are made to generate profit. Even James Cameron, who was reportedly interested in directing JP at one point, said that his version of the movie (which would have been an Aliens type of intense R rated sci fi) would not have done the material justice. Also, some of these fans are not accepting of the fact that Jurassic Park is essentially a family movie. When I went to see Jurassic Park 3D, there were plenty of children with their parents. Kids of all ages love the movie and love everything about dinosaurs. That€™s actually one of the reasons why the theme of family recurs in the series. However, an €œR€ rated JP would twist expectations on their head, possibly generate more interest from adults, and certainly could be a delight. It€™s not going to happen, but you€™ll still have fans wanting it.
