The Theory

Superman isn't just a regular Kryptonian on Earth, he's basically the Kryptonian chosen one thanks to being the one literally chosen to have the Codex embedded in his cells. He's basically Kryptonian Wikipedia and the Codex brings him other powers that are possibly yet to be revealed. As DC Extended Universe Wikia's website states, it's capable of reviving dead people:

Though never stated, the Codex's capabilities resemble Kandor due to the fact that they both were used to bring deceased Kryptonians back from death and create a new Krypton

So could the Codex use a little self-preservation magic and revive Superman to ensure the survival of the species?

Likelihood

It definitely feels like the Codex connection should be a bigger deal to Superman's story than it is currently, and this could be the best way to bring it back into play.

The problem, though, is that is basically makes Superman entirely invincible, unless you add some rule to tie it more to circumstances. And invincible heroes are bland ones.
