Justice League: 9 Major New Details Warner Bros Just Revealed
7. It Rises Out Of The Darkness

It's almost a cliche now to talk about the idea of Zack Snyder's obsession with darkness and grit. It was one of the founding creative principles of his vision for the DCEU, and he built his agenda to make grown-up comic book movies on that platform very openly.
It drew a lot of criticism, inevitably, when things didn't always work out, and there was a lot of talk ahead of Justice League's production about the studio interfering with the tone and wanting to pressurise Snyder into making something lighter. The subsequent appointment of Joss Whedon - with his MCU experience - seemed to suggest the studio still had some concerns.
But in Empire, Gal Gadot says the film is neither "dark" nor "heavy," and Ben Affleck says it was always the plan to lighten up after Batman v Superman - a sentiment Ezra Miller shared:
"The first time I ever sat in Zack's office, he told me people were mad at him for making things too dark... Zack always intended for the Justice League to rise out of the darkness, and maybe even bring Batman with them. Maybe an inch."
