Justice League Final Trailer Reactions - 6 Ups & 4 Downs

2. Red Sky At Night...

Aesthetic choices are all well and good, but looking to add colour to consciously address those accusations of a needlessly dark palette in Batman v Superman and Man of Steel should mean more than just colouring in the sky any old colour.

Obviously, the climax under the red sky at Chernobyl is designed to feel apocalyptical, but it already looks a bit much.

The key thing about a perilous attack on the Earth is that it should look like there are stakes in real human terms. Man Of Steel might have taken a lot of flack for destroying Metropolis, but you felt it because there were recognisable landmarks and people a collateral damage. With a landscape that doesn't look human, no humans under threat and a colour scheme designed to define difference, it's going to be hard to feel the same way.

And it's the kind of thing that invites accusations of style over substance.
