Despite being €˜grounded in reality€™, The Avengers dealt with very fantastical concepts and characters that were straight out of a comic book. As great as that is, it takes away from some of the realism. There€™s something to be said of a story that, at it€™s core, speaks to the audience in it€™s own way.

No one can relate to a rich and cocky genius being kidnapped, then fighting crime in an iron suit to balance out his karma (not many of us anyways). Or another genius scientist who turned into a green monster and has been on the run from the law. Or a pretty boy super soldier leader who was frozen in time. Or a Viking God!

Whereas the characters of the Justice League Of America, were all conceptualized with attributes that are universal. The rage and helpless-ness of losing one€™s parents, and how that affects someone€™s future relationships. Constantly feeling like an outsider, never really fitting in, due to being adopted, causing many an identity crisis. Being a woman in a man€™s world, always fighting (literally in the case of Wonder Woman) for equality. Having to overcome fear. These are all concepts that we can relate to, making their stories that much more €˜real€™ to us.

Characters, who at their core, despite the superhuman qualities, are human, can be used to tell stories that emotionally impact the everyday moviegoer. If a Justice League movie focuses more on conflicts that threaten what it means to be human, and not just a literal threat like an Alien invasion, it€™ll be able to resonate more with the audience.

A Justice League movie can be a story about protagonists that the audience can relate to, put themselves in the shoes of beyond escapism. So watching these characters deal with internal and external conflicts in the real world, (not Aquaman bitching about Global Warming) will be far more dramatic and relatable, than the fantastical adventures of a quick witted group of conflicting personalities.
