Kevin Bacon: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
5 Awesome Performances
5. Nick Hume - Death Sentence
Death Sentence is one of Bacons most underrated performances, where he plays a father who kills the man who murdered his son, which then sets off a whole cycle of violence. It could easily have been a trashy B-movie but the performances and the story hammer home that violence never solves anything; Nick gains no satisfaction from avenging his son, and the fallout from that act ends up destroying his life. Bacons character is just an average family man at the start of the movie, only to slowly suffer a breakdown as story progresses. He gets plenty of opportunities to show off his range, such as quietly weeping after he avenges his son or explaining to his other son how much he loves him. While the movie gives him the chance to shoot some guns and look cool, the depth he brings to it is what ultimately makes the movie work.
