Kevin Bacon: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

4. Sebastian Shaw - X-Men: First Class

Bacon made for a great villain in the first X-Men prequel, where he plays the man responsible for destroying young Magneto€™s life. Shaw is a charming playboy/former Nazi scientist who - in his spare time - tries to take over the world for mutant kind. He also has the ability to absorb any form of energy, which he can then use to great effect on his enemies. Bacon puts an interesting spin on the traditional comic book villain character, as he never attempts to seem menacing or evil. He€™s always friendly and polite, even when he€™s killing people. This has the effect of making him very creepy - Shaw genuinely seems to have no idea how much of a monster he is. His eventual comeuppance at the hands of Magneto - with some help from a sturdy coin - is thus very satisfying. The only real downside to the role is that his mutant powers are a bit weird, and he€™s much more threatening without them.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
