King Richard Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs

5. The Fantastic Tennis Sequences

Any successful sports movie must find a way to capture the excitement of the sport itself, and King Richard absolutely does that.

Director Reinaldo Marcus Green milks the various training and tennis match sequences for every thrilling drop they're worth, courtesy of some creative shot selections and sharp editing throughout.

Tennis isn't something that's been depicted on screen all that much throughout the history of cinema, but Green's dynamic filmmaking proves how to make even the most straight-forward back-and-forth rally visually compelling.

This is particularly true during the film's climactic tennis bout, which regardless of whether you know the outcome or not, is fantastically presented for maximum gut-wrenching suspense.
