Kingsman: The Golden Circle Review: 3 Ups & 7 Downs

2. Matthew Vaughn's Improved Direction

One of the worst things about the original film was Matthew Vaughn's rather slapdash direction, especially when it came to the action sequences, which were often saddled with poor, blurry visual effects and peculiar digital zooming which made them look rather cheap.

Thankfully Vaughn doesn't repeat the same mistake here, for while there's still some unpleasant CGI on occasion, the editing and general cohesion of the action is much better, actually feeling every bit the big-budget spy movie that it's supposed to be.

Even though the film never escapes the shadow of the original movie's church scene, at least the overall filmmaking discipline is much more sound. Just a shame about that script, though...
